Weekday Ramble Programme

The weekday walks began in 1992 and continue to be well supported by its regulars, as well as frequent newcomers.

All members of the Club and guests are welcome

The aim is to walk each week, alternating between Tuesdays and Thursdays. Members meet at the starting point of the walk. Walking usually starts at 10.30 a.m. Walkers typically arrive by 10.15 a.m. to allow time to put on boots and use toilets if necessary. The leader chooses the venue for the walk and details are circulated to members by email, as well as on this web site. Transport is typically by car; members car sharing where practical. Often, public transport is used. Walks take place in the Lancashire Hills, South Lakes, Cheshire, Wirral, North Wales and much closer to home, particularly in winter months.

Walks are about 5 -7 miles in length. A packed lunch is taken and members usually enjoy tea and cake (sometimes a pint) after the walk.

Details of walks will be emailed and will be on the web site nearer the time.

Please contact the leader if you intend to join a walk

Photographs of the various recent walks can be seen by clicking on the link to Flickr below (two dots).

OS Explorer Map:  287 West Pennine Explorer Grid ref 627214

Walk distance: about 6 miles and 400ft of ascent

Distance from Crosby:  about 37 miles – roughly 50 minutes to an hour’s drive

How to get there:  Take the M6 north to Junction 29 and then the M65 eastwards to Burnley. Come off the M65 at junction 3 and take the A674 south to Wheelton.  In a couple of miles, at Higher Wheelton, look out for a brown sign on the right to Highfield Golf club.  Turn LEFT here into Bett Lane and follow this road into the village of Brinscall.  You will pass The Cottage Tea Room on your right….turn right shortly after this. The swimming pool is on the left….. you can park here or on the road a bit further on. Post Code is PR6 8QU. Please be ready to walk at 10.30am.

The walk.  The first part of the walk follows a very good flat path through woodland along a river (The Goit). Crossing the White Coppice Cricket ground will lead us further south for another mile before we return to the Cricket ground for lunch on good benches. After lunch we head north again returning to Brinscall via a different route. This is a lovely walk through some delightful scenery. It is mainly on good paths; we have to walk gently uphill in some places and there are several stiles. We will have refreshments in the Cottage Tea Room in Brinscall.

Contact Gwyneth if you’d like to join the walk.
